Are at least some museums open on Monday in Vilnius? YES! Check the information below - there is quite a big choice of amazing places to visit in Vilnius Old Town and other neighborhoods on Monday. This might also be the perfect choice in case it's a rainy afternoon and you don't want to walk outside for too long.
Museums and art galleries
Museum of Illusions ( Vokiečių str. 8) – want to feel at least a bit like Alice in Wonderland...? This museum is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the illusionary world without any magic mushrooms. Be ready to forget all worries of the day by hanging on the ceiling like a bat. This museum is located in the Old Town, close to Vilnius Town Hall, so there is no need to spend extra time traveling in case you stay in the city center.
MO museum ( Pylimo str. 17) – very close to the Old Town, here you can experience both: (i) the amazing modern architecture of the world-famous architect Daniel Libeskind, who acknowledged that even though this is the smallest museum design created by him, still it is one of his most favorite works, and (ii) unique exhibitions of the modern art created by major Lithuanian artists from the 1960s to this day. Besides, this museum has one of the largest private art collections in Lithuania! Don’t miss the chance to visit thought provoking exhibitions.

Auto museum ( Dariaus ir Girėno str. 2) – if you are a car lover, that’s the perfect place for you to spend at least a couple hours exploring more than 100 authentic and rare exhibits brought here from private collections all around the world that show the whole motorization evolution. The building itself is also worth visiting, built in 1974 as a taxi park, it has a unique serpentine structure nowadays used for art performances, movie filming and various other events. Just bear in mind that this museum is a bit further from the city center, so you will need to use public transport or taxi to reach it.

Sapieha Palace ( L. Sapiegos str. ) – opened just recently after the long restoration and reconstruction works, this palace now is a place for contemporary art exhibitions, concerts and various other activities. Here, surrounded by the walls of once one of the most splendid baroque palaces built in 1693 that was brutally destroyed during the past two centuries, the contemporary art works look even more amazing and powerful. Also, there is a nice park nearby with cozy cafes. Try to find the oldest Lime or Linden tree in Vilnius while you are there. Though it is not very far from the Old Town, it is better to use public transport or taxi to visit this palace if you are not prepared for at least half an hour walk. On your way to the palace, we highly recommend visiting the baroque pearl of Vilnius – the St. Peter and Paul church that will take your breath away.
