“The Most Notable Partisan Battles of 1945”

A sensory exhibition for the blind about partisans in lithuaniaPhoto by the organisers

Eighty years ago, in Soviet-occupied Lithuania, some of the largest and fiercest battles took place between Lithuanian partisans and the Soviet army: the battles of Kalniškės, Žuvintas–Palios, Ažagai–Eimuliškis, Varčia, and Kiauneliškis. This exhibition presents powerful, shocking, yet inspiring and encouraging stories of the participants and witnesses of these battles, prompting reflection on patriotic values. It also aims to increase the accessibility of historical themes for people with disabilities, involve them more actively in cultural life, expand integrative and educational experiences, and encourage multi-sensory engagement. Visitors will encounter artistic installations which include voiced memories of participants and witnesses, evocative soundscapes reflecting the emotional intensity of combat, various scents, artistic objects, elements of living nature, original posters, Braille compositions, and sound-based video projections that immerse visitors in meaningful and emotionally charged moments of the battle narratives.

Spring equinox celebration

March 20th marks the beginning of astronomical spring - a time to embrace the returning light as the days begin to outlast the nights. The event will feature a program created by ethnomusicologist, composer, and cultural researcher Tamsaulė, in which the themes of ritual, renewal, and the cycles of nature are revealed through voice, electronic soundscapes, and folklore influences. During the concert, the audience will be invited not only to listen, but also to experience music as a shared ritual space - to join in singing, immerse themselves in a meditative atmosphere, and remember the rhythm that connects people with nature and cultural memory.

Until the autumn equinox, the Šventaragio Valley will be adorned with the Land Art installation TIESOS VARTAI (The Gates of Truth) by artist Vygantas Vėjas. According to the creator, the sculpture symbolizes connection and transition: from darkness to light, from this world to the beyond, from greatness to insignificance, from insignificance to greatness. This becomes a task of qualitative change, which involves contemplating Truth as the necessary key to unlocking the Gates.
