Autumn is finally here and it might seem all gloom and doom, but we promise there’s lots of things to do in Vilnius! When the rain and cold sets in, the theaters, galleries and restaurants open their doors wide and promise some of the most exhilarating experiences. So don’t hesitate to visit Vilnius and let us suggest some of the events locals wouldn’t miss. 

Vilnius International Theatre Festival “Sirenos”

Lithuania’s largest theater festival, will celebrate its twenty-second edition! International programme will last from September 23rd to October 10th and will feature artists from around the world. So you don’t have to worry if you don’t understand Lithuanian - there’s going to be performances in many different languages with subtitles in English! This year’s festival invites you to explore what space means in contemporary theatre, as shaped by the participants, each bringing their unique thoughts and contexts.

Tastes of Vilnius: Free Educational Experiences

Vilnius has always been a multicultural city where Lithuanians, Poles, Jews, Tatars, Karaims, and many others lived side by side. Each community contributed its own flavors, traditions, and recipes, shaping the unique food culture that still thrives today. This autumn, join free Lithuanian Gastronomy Week educational sessions at the Vilnius Tourist Information Centre and discover how centuries of cultural exchange created the city’s rich culinary heritage. Explore Vilnius as a true melting pot of tastes and aromas  and enjoy a tasting of the famous cold beetroot soup, šaltibarščiai.

Medieval day at Vilnius Defensive Wall Bastion

In the Middle Ages, soldiers protected Vilnius and townspeople lived in the city center with craftsmen, traders, and bakers. Food was cooked on fire in pots, and noble families enjoyed rich dishes with products from other lands. On October 11th the 700-year-old history will come alive in the Vilnius Defensive Wall Bastion, where you can step into the world of medieval life. There will be food, games, fights, crafts, and fun for both children and adults.

Halė Electro Jam

Every Saturday evening in October at 7:30 PM, Halės Turgus turns into a spot for live electro jams. Musicians bring their synths, guitars, drums, and more to play fresh underground sounds. The event is free, and you can just come, hang out, enjoy the music, and tip the artists if you like. A chill way to spend the evening in one of the coolest places in Vilnius.

NOA 9th Contemporary Opera Festival

NOA (New Opera Action) is a contemporary and alternative opera and art festival that breaks the limits of traditional opera and connects different art forms. It celebrates freedom, teamwork, and new ideas. Each year, it brings world premieres of bold and creative performances — come and experience opera like never before!

Finally, we invite you to join our walking tours! October is the start of our winter season, but we still have plenty of tours running. This month we continue Vilnius: from ‘90 to now tours every Friday and Sunday at 14:30 from Halės Market, and then we will take a break until spring and warmer weather. Don’t miss the chance to join before the winter break.
